A friendly radio voice

Somewhere in all of the hoopla of the modern internet living in your pocket and the on-demand streaming, the spirit of the radio has been lost on us.

Maybe I'm growing older, but I'm nostalgic about the old-school vibes of a live AM or FM radio transmission, a broadcast, a dispatch, going "on the air", the warm voice of a DJ/host that you don't know but listen to like a friend, a regularly-scheduled-program that feels cozy and provides shelter from a loud and chaotic world.

When I was young, I listened to Car Talk on National Public Radio. Tom and Ray. Legends. I knew nothing about cars. But I did know that I enjoyed listening to two genuine brothers laugh their way through half-diagnosed car problems and the memories they made with listeners.

If you're over 30 years old, I bet you appreciated the radio. Maybe you had a favorite station or a favorite talk show. Can you think of it? Did you ever call in for fun?

Us millennials had the radio, about 35 channels on cable TV, and maybe a handful of CD-RWs in the car that we burned before KaZaa or Limewire took down our Compaq family computer. Things were limited.

And that was fine.

Today, yes, we have great podcasts and legendary hosts and unlimited access to media and knowledge.

But I like simple.

No faces, no ads, no corporations forcing you to use their platform and pay, no distracting content before or after, just a good voice, good programming, and good music.

I hope to become that friendly voice with my broadcast.

My goal is to build 500 or 1000 enthusiastic regular listeners and start from there. A little group of fellow nostalgists, maybe millennials like me, that hope to bring back a simpler time through small habits like where you get your music and laughs.

To spread the word initially: I've built a spreadsheet of all the people I've met and kept their phones or emails. In a personal manner, I'll let people know that I’m doing a few creative projects including this radio, and that all of my life will now live on my website. It will be hosted on my own server, forever.

So if you're reading: welcome.

I invite you to click "Live Broadcast" above, you can listen to the pilot playlist. At the moment there is some wonderful Brazilian music that has been the core of my life these last several years.

Soon I will be adding programming that will be a combination of new music, good books, and things that might be useful.

I hope you check back now and then to my station, Harps-FM.
